I felt compelled to write an article upon hearing that certain Transport groups were lobbying to increase the tare weight in order to combat hiking fuel prices – they were pushing towards (but not necessarily asking for) ‘road trains’ as they call them in Australia, three-trailer trucks which are fine in Australia, where you can drive for two days and not have to turn the steering wheel… but not in NZ. It is often cited that the Chinese character for “crisis” is comprised of two symbols; one signifying “danger”, the other “opportunity” – I was trying to invoke some positive thinking around the fuel crisis.
